In a sleepy town, one man, a wannabe horror film director is about to have his life and the world he knows change forever. Finally, he gets the big break he has been waiting a lifetime for, but its not Hollywood knocking on his door.

A mystery man brings together a group of dead, gay artists to investigate a police response to the dilema of wash-room sex in Toronto. The artists have seven days in which to report on the ethics of police tactics. The artists infiltrate the police only to discover that they themselves are under surveillance as a political subversive group. Rise Above follows one guy and his girlfriend's mother as they make an ascent of Saraoreum, a volcanic mountain with a lake at the summit. T wo people meet for the first time in strangely uncomfortable circumstances which become clear during their ascent. They start to talk and share their memories and thoughts about a woman, the guy's girlfriend and also the mother's daughter. As time goes by, the audience realise that the guy's girlfriend and also the mother's daughter already passed away and two characters have been making an ascent of the mountain so as to put her ashes at the summit. The two characters begin to feel more familiar each other as time goes by and ready to say good bye to her.
