A former couple, separated since their teen-age years by immigration, meet again in Cuba four decades later. This will be their opportunity to see how much they have changed, and ascertain whether the love promises they made to each other forty years earlier were fulfilled or not.

Doc lives on the edge of Europe where it imperceptibly slides over into the Third World. As a doctor, he knows that the illness he has contracted ten years before in war-torn Africa is getting worse. The diagnosis is cholera, but Doc Knows the disease's real name: despair. His thoughts about his failed struggle for justice and ideals are drowned regularly in alcohol. On the other side of the world lives Jimmy, a speed-loving motorbike freak who, when his mother dies, finds a letter from Doc and discovers that his father, whom he thought was dead, is still alive. The encounter of the two men leads to a reappraisal of two worlds in opposition.

Years later, the convict gets out of prison and winds up in the same town where his former cell-mate is now a respected citizen, and attempts to blackmail him.

Eyes of an Angel is a 1991 drama starring John Travolta and directed by Robert Harmon. It was released in France, Sweden, and on TV in the U.S. as The Tender. It was released straight to video in 1994 under its proper title to coincide with Travolta's bigger name release, Pulp Fiction. According to the opening credits, the movie is based on a true story.
