Francesco Dominici, tornato dalla guerra, cerca invano lavoro. Agostino fugge, trascinandosi dietro Maria Grazia e le pecore. Maria Grazia viene brutalmente strangolata da Agostino, che accecato dalla paura, precipita in un burrone. Francesco si consegna ai carabinieri, fidando nella revisione del processo e nell'assoluzione.
