En 1816, après la chute de Waterloo et alors que Louis XVIII s'installe sur le trône de France, une frégate "La Meduse" quitte le porte de Rochefort sous les ordres du commandant Chaumareys avec à son bord le futur gouverneur du Senegal, et sa famille.
