British Army captain Geoff Roberts carries on an affair with Alva, the wife of the cruel Victor Sangrito. Sangrito, however, is well aware of the affair, as he uses his beautiful wife to lure men into romance with her, then blackmailing them to save their careers. When Roberts falls into Sangrito's trap, he pays the blackmail and leaves for India, hoping to forget Alva, whom he loved but now believes betrayed him. After some time in India, he is joined by his young friend and bosom companion Lt. Ned Nichols. Nichols, too, is in love with a woman back in England...the same woman. Though the two friends nearly come to blows over Alva, they eventually realize that she has been false to them both and that their friendship far outweighs their feelings for a mendacious woman. But when the two are invalided home, they encounter Alva again, and learn that she may not have betrayed them after all.

When the daughter of veteran 911 call center operator Pamela (Mischa Barton), and her estranged husband Jeremy (Luke Goss), a Senior Police Officer, is kidnapped and held hostage, they are left desperate, with no choice but to follow the kidnapper's rules: send messages through dispatch for all police and fire units to scatter to remote locations throughout the city where they are met with chaos. Not knowing who or why, the one thing they do know is if they fail to discreetly collaborate with one another - they will be solely responsible for facilitating the biggest crime in the city's history. Now they must race against the clock to make the choice of their lives - save the city - or save their daughter.

This Peter Carter's first feature film, with the veteran producer, F.R. Crawley, and the result is a sharply observed study of the simple life in the Newfoundland and its people. The script was written by a well-known Canadian actor, Gordon Pinsent, who himself is a Newfoundlander. Gordon Pinsent wanted to see more of Canada on the screen than just Montreal and Toronto. He wrote this screenplay about a forthright, boisterous, independent, fun-loving rascal who finds himself alone in society, with his own life and that of Newfoundland in mind. There are many marvellous moments, notably the scene between Pinsent and Will Geer, and whole has a charm and energy which carries it over less articulated sequences.
